Perstima to expand tinplate capacity

Malaysia’s sole tinplate producer Perusahaan Sadur Timah Malaysia (Perstima) Bhd plans to increase production at its Pasir Gudang plant by 20% and install an additional shearing line for its Vietnam plant.

Chairman Tan Sri Ab. Rahman Omar told The Star newspaper: “We need to increase our capacity given the strong demand for steel and steel related products.” The upgrading process in Johor was expected to be completed by year-end.

Tata expanding tinplate capacity

Tinplate Co of India Ltd (TCIL), a Tata group subsidiary, plans to double its exports of tinplate to other Asian markets from next year, its managing director Bushen Raina has told Metal Bulletin.

TCIL has been consistently exporting 30-35 percent of its 180,000 tpy tinplate output over the last four years, according to Raina. This proportion will rise to 40 percent once a new 200,000 tpy tinning line, to be supplied by Nippon Steel Engineering under a contract...
