New Surface Treatment for Tinplate Fulfills the Requirements of New Varnishes and Improves Surface Brilliance

ThyssenKrupp Rasselstein reports that thanks to an innovative oiling process it has solved problems that arise due to critical, very polar varnishes.

With a surface oiled in the usual way, very polar varnishes increase the risk of varnish wetting flaws, which are usually visible as pores. The alternative oiling eliminates this difficulty. The process has already been placed successfully on the market.

The interaction between varnish properties and the properties of the tinplate surface is essential for pore-free varnishing.

Steel confirmed as most recycled packaging material in Europe

APEAL (the Association of European Producers of Steel for Packaging) has released the latest European steel recycling figures.

In 2012, 2.7 million tonnes of steel packaging were recycled to make new steel products, corresponding to an average European rate of 74%. This reinforces the long term trend for steel as the most recycled packaging material in Europe.
