Kazakhstan tinplate production continues to decline

According to official data released by the Kazakh Statistics Agency, national tinplate production fell by 28.7% to 147,385 tonnes in 2012. This was the third consecutive year in which production has declined, having peaked at 201,000 tonnes in 2009. The country's crude steel production also fell, down by 21.6% to 3.77 million tonnes and sales of most finished steel products were also reduced significantly.

Tinplate recycling: all-time record broken again

ThyssenKrupp Rasselstein reports that in 2011, the rate in Germany at which used packaging steel was recycled into new steel reached 93.9 percent. This was the figure quoted by the Gesellschaft für Verpackungsmarktforschung (Society for Packaging Research) in its latest recycling review for packaging in reporting year 2011.

It exceeds the previous top rate, which was achieved in 2008, by a further 0.3 percentage points.
