Van Dieman to start first mine around year end

Van Dieman Mines plc, the London AIM market listed company with a number of tin projects in Tasmania, has announced updates on its plans in the last week. The company’s 700 tpy capacity Scotia operation will commence production “around the turn of the year”, followed by the Endurance project in the second half of 2008 and the Great Northern Plains project the year after. Baseresult increases investment in South Crofty mine

Baseresult Holdings Limited has begun purchasing more underground mining equipment as it accelerates plans to re-open the South Crofty mine in Cornwall.

The BBC’s website reports that the company aims to have the mine, closed in 1998, back in full-scale production within two to four years.

However the plan is opposed by the South West Regional Development Agency, which has a competing plan for a large leisure, industrial and housing development adjacent to the mine site.
