Iluka reports new tin production

Iluka Resources Ltd. of Australia reported production of 315 tonnes of tin pre-concentrate in the January-March quarter, up from nothing in the same period of 2007.

Tin is produced as a by-product at the Douglas mineral sands mine in Victoria’s Murray Basin. The zircon and rutile operation started up in February 2007 and reached capacity production last June. Syrymbet developing Kazakh tin mine

Syrymbet Mining, part of the Almaty-based Lancaster Group, is to develop a large-scale tin project in northern Kazakstan, starting with a two-year large scale pilot plan operation later this year. The orebody could eventually support a 7,000 tpy Sn mine, using chlorine leaching to extract tin and several co-products.
