Chemtura to sell tin stabilisers business

Chemtura, one of the world’s leading tin chemicals companies, has entered an agreement to sell its PVC additives business, with SK Capital the lead bidder. The company’s US operations are currently under Chapter 11 protection and the deal is subject to approval by the United States Bankruptcy Court. European Commission fines PVC stabilisers cartel members

Following a long investigation which began in 2003, the European Commission has fined 10 groups of companies a total of close to € 174 million for participating in price fixing and market sharing cartels for tin stabilisers and ESBO/esters stabilisers used in PVC products. Varying fines were imposed on Akzo, Baerlocher, Ciba, Elementis, Elf Aquitaine (Arkema France), GEA, Chemson, Faci, Reagens and AC Treuhand for violating the EC Treaty’s ban on cartels and restrictive business practices (Article 81).
