Apple investigates potential use of illegally mined tin from Indonesia

In a note added to its Supplier Responsibility page Apple announced that the company is investigating whether or not its suppliers are sourcing tin from illegal mines; "Bangka Island, Indonesia, is one of the world's principal tin-producing regions. Recent concerns about the illegal mining of tin from this region prompted Apple to lead a fact-finding visit to learn more. ITRI survey: tin demand growing slowly

ITRI, the global tin trade association, today released findings from its latest annual tin use and recycling survey which provides new definitive information on tin use and recovery in 2010/2011.

Information from this unique and comprehensive study is based on the combination of published statistics and expert estimates, as well as a large direct industry survey of 150 individual downstream users on their activities in 2010 and 2011.
