Apple claims progress on conflict minerals

In an annual report on labor and environmental practices in its supply chain, Apple said it is making progress eliminating so-called conflict minerals.

Apple said it had identified 225 smelters in its supply chain that handle gold, tantalum, tin or tungsten, and that 135 of those smelters were audited last year to verify that they do not use materials that fund armed groups; that’s more than double the 57 smelters audited in 2013.

The Indonesia Tin Forum hosted by ITRI in Pankalpinang, Bangka on the 11th December 2013 attracted more than a hundred local and international delegates to hear about and discuss issues currently facing the Indonesian tin sector such as changing export regulations, and international market concern over environmental and social sustainability. Attendees included industry, authorities and civil society in this unique event which provided an opportunity for a wide range of interests to be considered and discussed.
