Resumption of some Indonesian export sales

During the course of last week statements from spokesmen for various Indonesian tin producers indicated that the halt to exports that was called from 1 October will not be 100% effective. In particular state-controlled PT Timah will continue to fulfil long-term contractual commitments to customers. Private smelters may also resume sales if prices rise further.

Indonesian exports fall ahead of halt

Preliminary data from Indonesia's trade ministry showed that tin metal sales declined sharply in September, ahead of the halt in exports called by producers from 1 October. The volume of tin checked prior to shipment last month was 5,233 tonnes, down 24% year-on-year on the corresponding figure for September 2010 and 39% lower than in the previous month.
