EU Stakeholder consultation on solders for glass

The Oeko Institute, Germany has concluded an industry consultation on EU ELV exemption 8(i) "lead in solders for electrical glazing applications". This is highly relevant to the automotive industry in relation to solders for windscreens.

The consultation ran from July to September 2011 and was targeted at research and government organisations as well as the automotive industry.

Two previous consultations in 2008 and 2010 showed some unresolved issues.

Review of the Controversial REACH Regulation Tabled for 2012

Five years after its adoption the European Commission is preparing to review the controversial REACH Regulation which, for the first time, required companies to prove that the substances they supply in EU are safe to consumers and the environment. While people agree that the aims of REACH are creditable, many have criticised the way in which the Regulation has been implemented.
