Tin Metal SIEF

The REACH Sn metal Substance Information Exchange Forum (SIEF) was formed in November 2008 in order to start discussions on the sameness of substances within the pre-SIEF and to obtain agreement on a substance identity within the pre-SIEF.

The SIEF Formation Facilitator was elected and in March 2009, the SIEF unanimously agreed on substance identity. The SIEF Formation Facilitator was subsequently elected by SIEF members to undertake the role of Lead Registrant, and the Pure Sn Metal SEF was officially formed in July 2009.

The SIEF currently has over 3000 members, who are kept informed by the Lead Registrant (via ITRI, acting as Secretariat to the Tin Metal Consortium) of any pertinent issues affecting the SIEF in relation to registration. Members of the SIEF are required to sign a Lead Registrant agreement with the Lead Registrant, which sets out the conditions under which the Lead Registrant acts. SIEF members are also expected to pay a share the costs of the past and future operation of the SIEF, in line with ECHA guidance on the fair and non-discriminatory sharing of Lead Registrant and SIEF costs.
