ITRI conference reviews latest tinplate innovations

Tin alloy fuel catalysts save fuel and cut pollution

Global tin industry organisation ITRI has called for more research into the use of tin alloy pellets added to fuel following successful field trials in Malaysia. Positive results on fuel saving and exhaust emissions reduction have been identified using eleven different engines.

Nippon Steel has received a Nikkei award for a breakthrough in ferritic stainless steel technology that uses a 0.1% tin addition as a partial substitute for chromium. The new stainless steel grade looks set to compete strongly with the two main representative grades of TP304 (18%Cr-8%Ni) and TP430 (18%Cr), which together currently account for a little over half of all stainless steel production of some 30 million tpy. ITRI Launches On-line Tin Archive Index- 'Tindex'

ITRI has announced the launch of ‘Tindex’, a fully searchable index to its tin document archive, which is for the first time available on-line. The Tindex contains around 50,000 references to documents, which are held in the ITRI archive. Registration to gain access to this information is free of charge and is a quick and simple process.

The Tindex is the result of more than 70 years of work by librarians at ITRI, previously known as the ‘International Tin Research Institute’....

Students at Pewter Live 2006 get support from Sebastian and Jasper for innovative designs

Internationally renowned designer Sebastian Conran has picked the next big thing in interior design, and it’s made of pewter.

The winners of the design competition, Pewter Live 2006, were announced on Wednesday 7 June following judging by an expert panel, led by Sebastian, and comprising retail, media, manufacturing and fashion expertise. Prizes were presented by special guest Jasper Conran.
