Tin has a number of important uses in alloys or alloy coatings. Examples are engine bearings, bronzes and fuel tank linings. Tin-zinc coatings are particularly corrosion- resistant. It is also sometimes used as a pure metal, most notably in the float glass process, where molten glass floats on molten tin to make it flat. Amongst the metals tin has the highest heat capacity and can be used, for example, in cooling nuclear fusion reactors.
